There are many things I miss during my furlough but few make my mouth water as much as the Aussie Burger. For those of you Ignorant Yanks out there (Americans) an Aussie Burger consists of a normal hamburger patty, and pretty much every condiment known to man. Aussie Burgers are traditionally served with a fried egg (which makes it delicious) and beets, which wile an interesting choice, does mean you can get a serving of vegetables.
I will never forget the first time I ate an Aussie Burger. It was during a missions trip in 2007 and a Missionary asked if I had ever had a burger with the lot. The confused look on my face told him I hadn’t and he immediately demanded we have one for lunch. As we waited for the meal to arrive he kept smiling at me and I couldn’t figure out why until the food came.
As a hamburger lover my first Aussie Burger experience could only be described as “heavenly.” To this day I love eating gourmet burgers at restaurants, but part of me always wants to ask if they would be an egg on top of it just for old times sake.
